In this article, we will be fixing our focus solely on how to scan from printer to computer windows 10.

The article is a step-by-step guide that will help you in scanning your documents.

What Makes the Windows 10 Different From Previous Versions?

What makes Windows 10 a bit different is the app used for scanning.

When Windows 10 was launched, it made use of the windows Scan app. This application, however, did not function with older printers/scanners.

So, to make use of this app, your printer must be new.

Scanning With the Windows Scan App

Step 1: Turn on your printer

Make sure your printer is plugged into a power source. On the printer, locate the power button or switch as the case may be. Turn it on to get your printer operational.

Step 2: Connect your printer/scanner to your computer

Make sure your printer is connected to your computer. This will ensure communication between both devices.

In most cases, a USB cable is used for connecting these devices. On the other hand, wireless printers may not need a cable.

Step 3: Place the document in your scanner

To scan a document, place it face-down in the scan area of your printer.

Step 4: Click the Windows logo

Click on the Windows logo at the bottom-left of your computer screen. This will open the start menu.

Step 5: Open Windows Scan app

After step 4, you might see the Windows Scan app right away. If you don’t, then click “All Apps”. You will find that in the start menu.

You’ll see a list of all the programs/apps installed in the computer alphabetically.

Locate and click on the “Windows Scan app’ to open it.

Step 6: Select your printer/scanner

Once the app is opened, it should display a list of scanners available. Your printer’s name should be shown provided it is properly connected and not offline.

Once you find your printer/scanner, simply click on the name.

Step 7: Make/change settings

After your printer/scanner is selected, you’ll have to choose the file type in which you want to save the scanned document.

For many devices and programs, the PNG is the more acceptable format.

To see more options, click on “Show More Link”. Its default setting should function well for general jobs.

However, if you need to make your scanned document customized, these are the setting you’ll have to change. They include color mode and resolution.

Step 8: Choose a file location

After you’re done with your settings, if you’re scanning for the first time, the app will create a new Scan folder. This happens after you click “Save as”.

This folder will contain all your scanned documents in the pictures folder of your computer.

This is the default location. The location can be changed if you desire before saving.

Step 9: Preview your document

After step 9, click on the “preview” icon/button to go through your scan to assess if it is okay.

If it isn’t, you can go back and make the adjustments by clicking the “show more link” button. Then you make corrections accordingly.

Step 10: Scan your document

Finally, click on the “Scan” button to scan your document. The Windows Scan app will carry out the command and scan the document.

This scanned image is then sent and saved in the designated folder you chose.

Step 1: Make sure you have an internet connection

Make sure your computer is connected to an internet network.

Step 2: Click the start button

Click on the start windows logo on your windows PC taskbar.

Step 3: Click Microsoft Store

Locate the “Microsoft Store” program and click on it.

Step 4: Search for “Scan”

Type “scan” in the search bar as the program opens. This will provide you with a list of results.

Step 5: Click Windows scan

Click “Windows scan” from the results showed. The app is usually the first on the list of results.

Step 6: Click “Get” to download

Step 5 will lead you to the next page: On this page, click the “Get” button. The app will begin to download automatically.

Once the app download is complete, click “launch” and the app will open.
